About Me
My name is Nicole Rinehart and I was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania but moved to San Diego at the age of four. I went to school in Poway Unified School District from kindergarten to twelfth grade. I graduated from Rancho Bernardo High School in 2009. I then moved up the California coast to experience college away from home. I attended Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and graduated in March of 2013 with a Bachelor's of Science degree in Liberal Studies and a minor in Child Development.
It was at Cal Poly where I became inspired to pursue elementary education. "Learn by Doing" is Cal Poly's educational motto and I plan to incorporate many aspects of project-based learning in my future classroom. My background in education includes volunteering countless hours in a variety of elementary classrooms. My diverse experiences include Title One schools, 1:1 technology based schools, schools where learning English is the primary focus and schools in affluent neighborhoods. I also worked as an instructional assistant in two first grade classrooms where I lead small reading groups and taught a basic keyboarding class. While in college, I spent my summers working educational jobs with children. I worked two summers during college as a camp counselor with preschool children and last summer as an educator at the San Diego Zoo where I was able to incorporate my passion for teaching and my love for animals into a fun summer program with incoming first grade children.
I am currently finishing my Master's of Education in Curriculum and Instruction through the University of San Diego. I have one global perspective course left that I am taking abroad in Oxford, United Kingdom. I have earned my Multiple Subjects Teaching Credential with an English Learner's Authorization at the University of San Diego. When I am not in the classroom teaching, I enjoy hiking with my three dogs, challenging myself in CrossFit workouts at CrossFit Barracks and coaching cheerleading. A goal I have set for myself is to one day teach at an elementary school in San Diego and coach a local high school cheerleading squad!
